Beyond the Books: Worst Movies

Image
This week's topic:  The Worst Movies I Have Ever Seen Oh man, oh man!  I love movies.  Like, love them!  But, boy, have I seen some doozies!  Here are a few that rank among the absolute worst I've seen: Fantasia Maybe I would appreciate this film more now, but when I first saw it as a child I hated it...with a passion.  Parts of it scared me.  Parts of it were so freakin' boring.  I didn't like it one bit.  Because of these reasons I have yet to bring myself to watch it again. Michael I don't know why I hate this movie, but I do.  Maybe it's Andie MacDowell...or John Travolta in this particular role... Shallow Hal I like Jack Black.  I dislike Gwyneth Paltrow.  Plus, this movie is so offensive on so many levels that I just can't take it.  Bad movie! Meet Joe Black A lot of people love this movie and, while it has some great scenes (peanut butter), it's overall pretty bad.  It's awful that ...

Top Ten Tuesday: Books as Movies or TV Shows

Image
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and it's a way to share what you're loving in list form. The topic changes every week, so there is always something new to discover! This week's topic is:  Top Ten Books I'd Love to See as a Movie or TV Show .  Oh man, oh man!  This could be good... Books that should be movies: Golden Boy by Tara Sullivan:  A heart-wrenching tail of survival and perseverance in Africa. The Silent Wife by A.S.A Harrison:  A great thriller. The House of Special Purpose by John Boyne:  Though this would be a slightly difficult based on the layout of the novel, it would be beautiful...so beautiful. City of Thieves by David Benioff:  A WWII adventure that would be brilliant...especially if Benioff wrote the screenplay (he's the co-writer of GOT). The Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer:  This could be amazing if done correctly as multiple movies.  I wouldn't be surprised ...

U is for Utopia

Image
Utopia I've always meant to read Thomas More's Utopia ...pretty much since I watch Ever After starring Drew Barrymore and Anjelica Huston (I love that movie despite Barrymore's atrocious British accent and the fact that everyone has a British accent yet it's set in France).  Recently I found an extremely inexpensive copy of the book and am bound and determined to start is soon.  Here's hoping it's sooner rather than later. Take a peak at the trailer for the movie...good stuff.  Have a terrific day everyone!

Why I Love...TV and Movies

Image
I'm notorious for believing that books are far superior to their TV and movie counterparts.  This is a known fact and, undoubtedly, true in nearly every single instance.  However, there are those rare occasions when TV shows and movies do a damn fine job at portraying the original print version; that's why this post is dedicated to my favorite show from a book and my favorite movie from a book (I couldn't pick just one). TV SHOWS It seems that there is a definite trend in today's newly developed shows.  That trend is taking popular books (mainly those geared toward young adults) and creating popular television shows from them.  Case in point:  The Vampire Diaries , Gossip Girl , Pretty Little Liars , and so on.  I can honestly say that I have heard great things about all of these shows, but I have yet to watch a single episode of any or read a single book.  On the other hand, there are three shows developed from books that I absolutely love (in desc...
