Top Ten Tuesday: Blogging Confessions

Image
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and it's a way to share what you're loving in list form.  The topic changes every week, so there is always something new to discover! This week's theme is:  Blogging Confessions .  I'm really going to try to come up with ten blogging confessions, but I don't know if I can do it.  Here goes! I have well over 50 book reviews in my drafts folder that I need to finish. I stopped adding new books that need to be reviewed to my drafts folder months ago...so that number should probably be much closer to seventy...or more :( I go in big blogging spurts and then kind of disappear for months.  It becomes quite difficult to post consistently during certain times of the year for some reason. The only time I post consistently is during the month of April because I participate in the A-Z Blogging Challenge ...so I'm FORCED to post something.  This was my th...

B.T.T: Format

Image
Booking Through Thursday:  Format Booking Through Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by Deb @ Booking Through Thursday . Every week she posts a book related prompt/question, you answer the prompt, and then link back to the original. Here's this week's: Question/Prompt:  Format All other things being equal, what is your favorite format for reading?  Hardcover?  Paperback?  New Book?  Old Book?  Leather-bound first edition?  E-book? For reading, I am old school.  I love a paperback book above all other mediums.  As an avid spine breaker, there isn't nearly the same satisfaction in reading other formats.  I know, shame on me for breaking the spines and ruining the structure/integrity of a book, but I want my books to look like they've been read.  No pristine books on my bookshelves!  While there are some instances where I like hardcovers, mainly in series form because t...

F.B.F: The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle

Image
Flashback Friday:  The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle Flashback Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Lisa @ Bookshelf Fantasies and it's a way to show a little love to those books that hold a special place in our hearts.  There are no set rules aside from the fact that the book must be at least five years old. This week, I'm taking everyone back to my elementary school days again.  Avi's The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle is probably one of my all-time favorite books.  It's the book I've read the most times throughout my life and it's the book I have bought the most copies of...because I lend it out and never get it back (this is why I keep track of who I lend my books to now).  The first time I read this book was in elementary school and I fell in love immediately.  Published in 1990, Confessions is the winner of multiple literary awards, including the Newbery Honor in 1991. The book follows thirteen-year-old Charlotte during her journe...

Musing Mondays 1

Image
Musing Monday #1   Musing Mondays is a weekly meme hosted by MizB @ Should Be Reading and is quite simple, really.  It asks you to comment/muse each week on one of the following prompts: Describe one of your reading habits. Tell us what book(s) you recently bought for yourself or someone else, and why you chose that/those book(s). What book are you currently desperate to get your hands on?  Tell us about it! Tell us what you're reading right now--what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; why you are (or aren't) enjoying it. Do you have a bookish rant?  Something about books or reading (or the industry) that gets your ire up?  Share it with us! Instead of the above questions, maybe you just want to ramble on about something else pertaining to books--let's here it, then! Here's what I'm thinking about  today: For the next two months I'm participating in a reading challenge, the Summer Library Challenge .  Basically it's a way to s...

F.B.F: Wait Till Helen Comes

Image
Flashback Friday:  Wait Till Helen Comes Flashback Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Lisa @ Bookshelf Fantasies and it's a way to show a little love to those books that hold a special place in our hearts. There are no set rules aside from the fact that the book must be at least five years old.  Today, I'm flashing all the way back to elementary school and showing some love for Mary Downing Hahn's  Wait Till Helen Comes .  Published in 1986, this is a ghost story that creeped me out in a good way as a kid.  I remember picking it up off one of the shelves in the school's library and thinking to myself..."Self, this looks like a good book to read.  Let's check it out!"  I'm so glad that I decided on a creepy book that day because it has definitely steered me in a wonderful reading direction.  The book follows a blended family (a mother, her two children, the man she marries, and his young daughter) and their move from a large city...

B.T.T: Extremes

Image
Booking Through Thursday:  Extremes Booking Through Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by Deb @ Booking Through Thursday .  Every week she posts a book related prompt/question, you answer the prompt, and then link back to the original.  Here's this week's: Question/Prompt:  Extremes What's the furthest you've ever gone to get something to read?  (Think extremes as well as miles--wrangling a ride from a stranger to a distant bookstore just to get the newest book from a favorite author?)  If your absolute favorite author (living or dead) was coming out with a brand new book tomorrow, how far would you go, what would you do to get a copy? The farthest distance extreme I've gone to get a book is probably about 65ish miles.  The world's largest new and used bookstore, Powell's City of Books , is located about an hour north of me in Portland, Oregon  and it's like my Mecca.  I don't need any specific reason to visit Powell's, but ...

New Blogging Schedule

Image
In an effort to post more consistently, I've decided to join in on a few memes hosted by various book bloggers in the blogosphere.  This will force me to post something every day, aside from Saturdays and Sundays, and I'm thinking that's a good thing.  I should also get back into the habit of reviewing the books I've read (I have a whole smattering of drafts just waiting to be finished), and posting those during the week as well.  Here's the breakdown of posting memes and their respective hosts: Mondays Musing Mondays hosted by MizB @ Should Be Reading This is a weekly meme where MizB will post a question on a book/reading- related topic and you answer with your personal thoughts. Tuesdays Teaser Tuesdays hosted by MizB @ Should Be Reading I used to participate in this meme regularly, but haven't for awhile.  I'm going to start posting on it again.  This meme is all about enticement.  You grab whatever book you're currently reading or wil...
