Beyond the Books: Favorite Shows

Image
This week's topic for Beyond the Books is:  Favorite TV Shows .  In no particular order, here's what I watch (often recorded to skip commercials)... Current Shows The Walking Dead , AMC Sundays at 9pm This is my jam...my favorite show.  Ever.  Probably.  I love this show so much and what they are increasingly able to get away with on cable television is astonishing!  So, so good.  If you haven't watched TWD yet, and blood and guts don't bother you, do it.  DO IT!  The Talking Dead , AMC Sundays at 10pm To go along with the above, the discussion show immediately following each new episode, hosted by the incomparable Chris Hardwick , is a must see.  They break the episode down with guests and, often, members of the show.  Watch it when Yvette Nicole Brown is a guest.  She's a beast and misses NOTHING in an episode.  So thorough. So You Think You Can Dance , Fox Mondays at 8pm The only reality competition I rel...

Top Ten Tuesday: Books as Movies or TV Shows

Image
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and it's a way to share what you're loving in list form. The topic changes every week, so there is always something new to discover! This week's topic is:  Top Ten Books I'd Love to See as a Movie or TV Show .  Oh man, oh man!  This could be good... Books that should be movies: Golden Boy by Tara Sullivan:  A heart-wrenching tail of survival and perseverance in Africa. The Silent Wife by A.S.A Harrison:  A great thriller. The House of Special Purpose by John Boyne:  Though this would be a slightly difficult based on the layout of the novel, it would be beautiful...so beautiful. City of Thieves by David Benioff:  A WWII adventure that would be brilliant...especially if Benioff wrote the screenplay (he's the co-writer of GOT). The Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer:  This could be amazing if done correctly as multiple movies.  I wouldn't be surprised ...

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and it's a way to share what you're loving in list form. The topic changes every week, so there is always something new to discover! This week's theme is:  Favorite Movies or TV Shows .  Oh, man, oh, man...where do I begin?  I'm going to go with TV shows for this week's post, because they're easier to narrow down! Here are my favorites (past and present) in no particular order: The Walking Dead I am obsessed with this show.  Beyond obsessed.  It's kind of ridiculous.  I'll watch the marathons even though I've seen every single episode.  I also stick around after each episode and watch The Talking Dead .  But it's oh so good!  If you like zombies and aren't grossed out by gore...this is THE show for you...as long as Daryl and Glenn don't die. So You Think You Can Dance Dancing?  Check!  Awesome choreography?  Check!  Alternating guest jud...

Why I Love...TV and Movies

Image
I'm notorious for believing that books are far superior to their TV and movie counterparts.  This is a known fact and, undoubtedly, true in nearly every single instance.  However, there are those rare occasions when TV shows and movies do a damn fine job at portraying the original print version; that's why this post is dedicated to my favorite show from a book and my favorite movie from a book (I couldn't pick just one). TV SHOWS It seems that there is a definite trend in today's newly developed shows.  That trend is taking popular books (mainly those geared toward young adults) and creating popular television shows from them.  Case in point:  The Vampire Diaries , Gossip Girl , Pretty Little Liars , and so on.  I can honestly say that I have heard great things about all of these shows, but I have yet to watch a single episode of any or read a single book.  On the other hand, there are three shows developed from books that I absolutely love (in desc...
