Top Ten Tuesday: Those That Linger
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl and it's a great way to share what you're loving in list form. The topic changes ever week, so there is always something new to discover!
This week's topic is: Top Ten Books That Have Been On My TBR The Longest. I'm ashamed to admit that my TBR is ridiculously out of control. Like, hide my head in the sand and ignore it out of control. I have gone through and deleted books recently, but I think that the number is so daunting that I'll never be able to cull it the way it needs to be.
All of these books were added to my TBR prior to 2010. I have this habit of reading a book and, if I like it, adding every single book that person has written to my TBR. I should stop doing that! For example, there are about 6 Rushdie books that were all added at the same time as Satanic Verses, but I skipped over adding those to this list and nearly everything written by Mann aside from the three or four I've read.
What are some books that have been on your TBR for a while?
Now excuse my while I sob into a pillow with the realization that I will NEVER be able to read all the books I want to read...

I so understand the feeling of it's not even worth it to try to cull. I can spend twenty minutes editing out 15 books, and that's not even a drop in the bucket. I think I ended up skimming Notes from a Small Island--it didn't carry me along as well as Neither Here Nor There or The Lost Continent, but it was still very good in parts. I haven't read ANY Rushdie or Hosseini, and I have several books by both on my TBR. I feel like I should read them, but I think I'm kind of afraid. How the Scots Invented the Modern World sounds terrific. My dad's parents were both born in Scotland, so even though I didn't know them well, I'm still interested in exploring that part of my heritage. I'm doing the Popsugar reading challenge this year, and that would be a great title for either "micro-history" or "your heritage."
