D is for...Dreaming and Don't Take
Happy Saturday, everyone! We've officially made it through week one of the A-Z Blogging Challenge and today is all about the letter D and I'm bringing you the following:
D is for "Dreaming of You" and "Don't Take the Girl"
"Dreaming of You" - Selena
Though released posthumously, this is the song that made me fall in love with Selena and her Tejano music. I remember waiting to hear this song on the radio and then singing it no matter the time of day. It's such a beautiful song; maybe not lyrically beautiful, but Selena sings it beautifully. Then the J-Lo movie came out...I still cry every time I watch that movie.
*Fun Fact: Selena was the first Tejano singer to win a Grammy.
"Don't Take the Girl" - Tim McGraw
Ah, Tim McGraw...you were my country crush as a kid. Still are, actually. "Don't Take the Girl" was the first McGraw song I heard and I knew that I had to have that album, Not a Moment too Soon! I listened to it constantly (the whole thing is good) and would watch CMT hoping that one of his videos would play (generally during the top ten countdown or something). I think it's probably my favorite McGraw disc and "Don't Take the Girl" still gets me a little teary-eyed.
*Fun Fact: Not a Moment too Soon was the best-selling country album in 1994 and "Don't Take the Girl" was McGraw's first #1 hit.
What are some of your favorite D songs?
Blog on, fellow A-Zers!
This is a great song, beautifully done video too!
ReplyDeleteI remember when Don't Take the Girl came out. I loved it...and then I went through a phase of not wanting to ever hear it again once the radio stations started playing it every 15 minutes. I hate it when they wreck a perfectly good (or even great) song! Elle @ Erratic Project Junkie
ReplyDeleteMe, too! Hence the reason I don't listen to the radio often...well, at least popular radio stations.
