Z is for...Zombie and Zip-Lock





We've done it!  Today is the final post for the A-Z Blogging Challenge and I consider this year's edition a resounding success.  It was a blast!  But on to today's letter...Z.



Z is for "Zombie" and "Zip-Lock"


"Zombie" - The Cranberries
 

If you're posting about music, how can you not choose this track as representative of Z?  It's so freakin' good!  A protest rock song written in memory of two boys, Jonathan Ball and Tim Parry, killed during the IRA bombings in Warrington, "Zombie" was released in late 1994 by Irish band The Cranberries.  It is beautifully angry and historically significant.  Such a great song.

*Lyrics:  "It's the same old theme since nineteen-sixteen / In your head / In your head they're still fightin' / With their tanks and their bombs / And their bombs and their guns / In your head, in your head they are dyin'"

"Zip-Lock" - Lit
 

A fun little pop-punk song, "Zip-Lock" was released as a follow-up to Lit's first single "My Own Worst Enemy".  Though not as successful as their first release, it still did relatively well in the charts.  The official video is the real star though...paying homage to Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It" and including various cameos of fellow rockers Blink-182 and Dee Snider. 

*Lyrics:  "I've been stealing / Time where I can get it from / I've been losing / Grip on what I used to hold / If I could get another chance / I'd put it in a zip-lock bag / And keep it in my pocket"

    I remember the Cranberries very well, I was quite a fan of the first two albums. I had My Own Worst Enemy on 7" (still do... all my vinyl is in a box because I haven't had a record player for years), but I didn't know this song at all. Fun!

      Lit on vinyl!? Awesome! I think it's time for a little investment into a record player ;)

    I was a fan of the Cranberries. Enjoyed watching both videos, just now.. I don't remembrer having heard the Zip lock song .
    Congratulations for making it to the end of the challenge. I'm trying to make my way through the list and visit all the participants.

Oooo...the day is getting closer; creeping stealthily, it will smack you in the face in no time! L is for...Lighthouses

 It's a schizophrenic Saturday here in Oregon (what's new) and we're strolling in to the halfway point of the A-Z Blogging Challenge.  Today's letter brings us to a feature that many states along the coast possess and something that I've always had a fascination with... Lighthouses There are eleven total lighthouses along the Oregon Coast.  Nine were built for maritime purposes, five are still in operation, and two were privately built.  Of the eleven, nine of them are on the National Register of Historic Places.  There are five lighthouses that offer tours to visitors and each has a unique history.  Some even have sordid pasts and rumored ghosts that roam their buildings.  As a heads up, I apologize for the length of this post. C is for...Crater Lake

Nearly halfway through the first week of the A-Z Challenge and we are to the letter C.  I hope everyone is plugging along nicely and not feeling pressured yet!  Today's letter is representative of... Crater Lake I love Crater Lake .  It's beautiful, fascinating, and awesome.  Located in Southern Oregon, Crater Lake is a body of water that has formed inside the remains of a once active volcano in the Cascade Range.  The caldera formed by the massive eruption of Mount Mazama 7700 years ago is now filled with crystal clear blue water and two islands; the main one being Wizard Island.  Fed only by rainfall and melting snow, the water is completely replaced every 250 years and one of the purest bodies of water in America in terms of absent pollutants.  The park is open year-round and visited by nearly half a million people annually, but many roads become impassible during the winter months.
