B.O.B. 21: Bookish Favorites
Today's mini challenge for Bout of Books 21 is Bookish Favorites
There are so many directions you could go with this topic, but I'm going to narrow it down to a few things (ones suggested by our fearless leaders, for example).
Here goes!
Favorite Audiobook Narrator: Jim Dale
Jim Dale narrates the American recordings of Harry Potter and they are BRILLIANT!! Simply fantastic. Now, there is great contention between fans of Dale's readings and the UK readings done by the phenomenal Stephen Fry (whom I adore), but Dale has my heart in this battle. If you have not listened to the audio versions of HP, please do yourself an enormous favor and get on that. You won't be disappointed!
Favorite Illustrator: Fiona Staples
Staples is a Canadian comic book artist who has worked on a variety of projects ranging from Archie, DV8: Gods and Monsters, North 40, and many more. I am most impressed with her work on the Saga series. It's beautiful, disturbing (at times), graphic, and completely captures Brian K Vaughan's story. If you have not read Saga, please do so. Volume 8 was just released and I can't wait to get my hands on it!
Favorite Bookstore: Powell's City of Books (Portland, Oregon)
Powell's is my mother ship...my mecca, if you will. Touted as the largest new and used bookstore in the world (it is), the flagship store (there are 5 locations now and a virtual store) is located on Burnside and takes up an entire city block. It is also four stories of bookish awesomeness. The store is so massive that a color-coded map is required to navigate. And, when you're feeling peck-ish from all that perusing, simply pop down to World Cup Coffee & Tea for a tasty scone and some liquid libations. If you're ever in Portland, go. Seriously.
Favorite Book to Movie: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
The BBC adaptation of Austen's most beloved work is so wonderfully done. And who can resist a little Colin Firth in their life? I also completely love the Keira Knightley/Matthew Macfadyen version. It has such beautiful cinematography. Runner-Up: North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell (check out the BBC adaptation).
Favorite Book to TV Show: The Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman
I absolutely love TWD (both the graphic novels and the show). While I'm not normally a blood/guts/zombie reader, this one sucks you in so hard! Reading the novels you can't help but wonder how the heck they could possibly incorporate some of the stuff into the show, but they manage to do it. So well done.
Favorite Song Inspired by a Book: "Feed My Frankenstein" - Alice Cooper
So, what are some of your favorite bookish things?
Happy reading, fellow Bout of Bookers!
